I took this photo because I really liked the reflections off the water. Assegaaibosch Country Lodge is a great place to go and take your family for a quiet and relaxing weekend or holiday. Its perfect for kids as well, because of the number of things for then to do. There are tractor rids, horse riding, a trip on Bessie ( an old double decker bus ) and enjoyable forest walks for all.
I saw this lily hiding in the undergrowth next to a stream. Its real name is Zantedeschia aethiopica named after Professor Zantedeschi.
The arum lily is actually many tiny flowers arranged in a complex spiral pattern on the central column. The tiny flowers are arranged in male and female zones on the column. The top 7 cm are male flowers and the lower 1.8 cm are female.
If you look through a lens you may see pollen emerging from the male flowers which consist largely of anthers.
The female flowers have an ovary with a short stalk above it, which is where the pollen is received.
